Energy has a transformative power: It drives economic development, connects territories, opens opportunities, and improves lives. Today more than ever, it has become an essential engine for building more inclusive and resilient societies.

For over two decades, AES has been committed to the energy transformation of El Salvador developing intelligent and sustainable solutions that, generate a positive impact on the present and future.

One example is AES Meanguera del Golfo plant, which has revolutionized the way energy is delivered to communities in areas that are difficult to access. Thanks to an innovative model integrating solar generation and energy storage through cutting-edge battery technology, this plant guarantees continuous, carbon-free electricity supply to the inhabitants of the islands in the Gulf of Fonseca, in the eastern part of the country, overcoming the geographical barriers of the territory.

Additionally, through its sustainable impact programs: AES Educación, AES Energía Rural, AES Mujer, and AES Medio Ambiente, it develops initiatives that promote education in energy efficiency, economic inclusion, gender equality, and the protection of natural resources.

The setting appears to be an industrial or educational environment with metal framing visible around them and a white wall in the background.

For example, through the Residential Electrical Installation Courses from AES Mujer, over 800 women electricians have received technical training; and with AES Energía Rural, energy access has been facilitated for more than 85,000 families in rural areas, demonstrating how energy can become a powerful tool to bridge inequality gaps and create more inclusive development opportunities.

To successfully advance this vision, AES has built key foundations within the company: a solid corporate culture based on values, a co-creation environment that stimulates participation from its human talent at all levels, active listening to its stakeholders, and a strong commitment to technological innovation.

These capabilities have been essential for integrating sustainability into the business and continuing to move steadily toward its purpose: accelerating the future of energy while improving lives and actively contributing to the social, economic, and environmental progress of El Salvador.

Abraham Bichara, Presidente Ejecutivo de AES El Salvador

A professional career spanning four decades in the electricity industry and more than 15 years leading AES El Salvador, one of the most prominent companies in the national and regional energy sector, underscore the leadership, professionalism, and visionary focus of Abraham Bichara, the company's Executive President.

Bichara began his journey in the sector while still pursuing his degree in Electrical Engineering at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA), joining the energy distributor CAESS as a “Scholar Student.” CAESS is now part of the four distribution companies within the AES El Salvador group. From that first step, his career has been closely tied to the company and to promoting the energy development of El Salvador. Over the years, he has held various roles, allowing him to deeply understand all operational levels of the business — from technical fieldwork to managerial positions both inside and outside the country.

These experiences provided him with a comprehensive perspective for decision-making aimed at creating real value with a positive impact. From his current position at the helm of the company, he has led its transformation from a traditional “energy distribution company” model into a “Diversified Energy Group” committed to sustainability. AES El Salvador plays a significant role in the country’s renewable transition, focusing on generating energy from renewable sources, implementing electric mobility solutions, betting on technological innovation and modernization of the electric sector, and developing high-impact social initiatives, such as technical training programs to prepare women electricians and fostering a culture of energy efficiency through education across all levels of society.

In the background, an electrical worker is high on a pole performing maintenance or installation, while another worker stands below. The scene is bright and sunny, with yellow caution tape visible on the ground.

What sets Abraham Bichara apart is not only his vast experience but also his approach to leadership: open-minded, ethical, and genuinely capable of acting and inspiring his team. He firmly believes in the power of collaboration and surrounding himself with capable individuals who share not only objectives but also a sense of purpose. For him, leadership is not just about action and achieving results; it is about building trust, empowering talent, and contributing to the development of the environment in which the company operates.

The significance of his visionary approach is widely recognized, as evidenced by his recent acknowledgment among the country’s top leaders in the "Merco Líderes" study conducted by Merco, a leading reputation monitor in Ibero-America. His ethical and responsible leadership, focused on community well-being, has left a mark on the company he leads. These same values are reflected in the way AES El Salvador conducts its business and engages with stakeholders. This has earned AES El Salvador a place among the companies with the best corporate reputation in El Salvador, as well as among the most responsible in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters, according to Merco and its studies "Merco Empresas" and "Merco Responsabilidad ESG."

In this way, Abraham Bichara shows that when leadership is exercised with transparency, commitment, and a human vision, the results are reflected in corporate success and excellence. In the case of AES El Salvador, this reputation clearly mirrors the leadership style that guides it.
