With the purpose of preserving the country's coastal ecosystem, more than 40 volunteers from AES El Salvador, in coordination with Fundación Zoológica de El Salvador (FUNZEL) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), carried out a reforestation day at Los Almendros beach, Acajutla.

During the activity, over 10 species of native trees were planted to restore approximately one hectare of the "El Zope" dry forest, located on Los Almendros beach, part of the Los Cóbanos Complex Protected Natural Area, in Sonsonate. This area, affected by fires in 2023, now benefits from these reforestation efforts, which aim to revitalize its natural resources and promote its long-term conservation.

The region's green areas are vital for coastal protection, acting as natural barriers against storms and helping to reduce soil erosion. In addition, these areas provide refuge to numerous species of wildlife, reinforcing local biodiversity.

Virginia Trujillo, Communications and External Relations Director of AES El Salvador, stated: "We are committed to the environment and firmly believe in the need to promote sustainable initiatives. This reforestation is another step towards the protection of our coasts and the preservation of marine life."

The FUNZEL representative highlighted the importance of partnerships between the private sector, non-profit organizations and the government to achieve long-term environmental goals. "Collaboration is key to restoring and protecting our ecosystems, and activities like this bring us closer to a more sustainable future," she said.

This initiative at Los Almendros beach is part of the AES Environment program, which seeks to preserve biodiversity and protect the environment of our country, thus promoting a greener future and a balance between the development and conservation of flora and fauna.
