Tamara Chamorro: A story of overcoming challenges and empowerment through energy.
April 15, 2025
In 2019, Tamara Chamorro found an opportunity that would transform her life: the Fourth Category Residential Electrical Installation Courses, promoted by AES El Salvador in partnership with the Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo de la Mujer (ISDEMU).
Facing personal and financial difficulties, Tamara decided to enroll in the technical training without imagining that this step would mark a turning point in her life. “AES's opportunity changed my life,” she expresses. “The course impacted me deeply. I learned, felt capable, and for the first time, envisioned a different future.”
After graduating and becoming certified as an electrician, she competed and won “Capital semilla”, and founded her own company, “Electra Services”, dedicated to the maintenance, construction, and repair of residential electrical systems. With this initial investment, she managed to acquire tools, specialized equipment, and a work vehicle.
In a field historically led by men, Tamara has faced multiple challenges in every project that she has been awarded as a contractor for residential electrical services. “Sometimes I arrived at places where there were ten men, and I was the only woman. It was difficult, but I managed to earn respect for my work,” she shares.

Beyond her personal success, Tamara decided to extend the impact of her experience. Today, she generates employment for other women, promoting their training and participation in the electrical sector. Her company has become a network of support and female empowerment. "I know what it’s like to start from the bottom, without support. That’s why now I want to help other women empower themselves and believe in themselves," Tamara emphasizes.
Today, Tamara is an economically independent woman who continues to overcome barriers, demonstrating that, even amidst adversity, it is possible to find and amplify great virtues.
AES El Salvador takes pride in being part of stories like Tamara Chamorro's, reflecting the transformative power of technical education and the commitment to gender equity.
